An endowment is a legal structure for managing and indefinitely perpetuating a pool of financial investments for a specific purpose, according to the will of its founders and donors. Endowments are often structured so that the principal value is kept intact while the investment income or a small part of the principal is available for use each year.
Funds are recieved under very specific consitions to protect funder specifications. The UF Endowment has three categories: permanent, term, and quasi endowment. Read more.
Endowed gifts, in particular, make long-lasting impact on students, teachers and researchers whose lives and work will, in turn, help change the world.
For the past 16 years, the UNESWA Foundation has supported the University of Eswatini by capital raising, receiving, managing and utilizing donor funds to benefit the University and its students. We disburse based on funder preferences- our funder policy outlines what the funds are designated for. The return on investment is then disbursed to support UNESWA’s core function which is teaching, research and community service.
UNESWA is funded, in part, by an endowment. The endowment includes thousands of contributions by staff members; alumni; students; philanthropists (HNWI), international aid agencies, corporates and friends of UNESWA local and abroad. Together, these gifts form a permanent source of funding that connects scholars and learners from many diverse backgrounds with opportunities at UNESWA, now and into the future.
UF endowment is made up of multiple funds, the majority of which are “restricted.” This means that donors have specified that their contribution must support a particular aspect of the University’s work, from specific research to chaired professorships and dedicated scholarships. These investments are critical to many areas of our work, each with a unique person and story behind it.
